Week Twenty-Seven

We had a fun week in Room 104.  We worked on poetry, addition, and learned more about the government. We also started March Minute Madness and Pennies for Patients at Beye!

Our ELA Block included new spelling lists and more cursive writing. In RUOS, we continued our "Bigger Books Means Amping Up Our Reading Power" unit. We spent some time working on reading fluency and literary language. We read "Happy Like Soccer" and "Amelia Bedelia" and learned about idioms. In WUOS, we kept on writing on Poetry. We tried creating poems with special language, repetition, and mood. We're doing a great job!

In our afternoon block, Social Studies focused on government. We read and worked more on our lap books. That included the 3 branches of government, levels of government, representatives in our government, and national symbols. We plan on reviewing what we know and having a mock election next week. In math, we continued module 5 on Addition and Subtraction Within 1,000 and Word Problems to 100. We focused on addition using place value disks. Then we reviewed adding vertically before reviewing all of our addition strategies. We will assess addition next week before working more with subtraction.

We also had our specials. We started coloring our dinosaur pictures in Art with Ms. Sundquist. We had a lot of fun singing new songs songs in Music with Ms. Altshuler. We continued discussing our community in Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. We read a story and checked out books with a substitute in the library. We played basketball and some other fun games and had an awesome time in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We also met up with our Book Buddies in Mr. Manus' class on Friday

Finally, Beye had it's first week of March Minute Madness. Students were challenged to read 200 minutes in a week. Five made it!  Let's see if more can make it next week. We also had an assembly on Thursday to start our "Pennies for Patients" fundraiser. We are collecting pennies and change through next Friday, March 15 to help support research by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Hopefully you can help out!  Have a great weekend!
