Week Twenty-Eight

We had a busy week in Room 104.  We worked on a lot on literary language in both reading and writing, learned strategies to subtract, and held a mock election in Social Studies!

Our ELA Block included new spelling lists and finishing up all of the cursive letters. In RUOS, we continued our "Bigger Books Means Amping Up Our Reading Power" unit. We spent some time in partner book clubs reading and discussing chapter books together. We also read "Jabari Jumps" and discussed more examples of literary language. In WUOS, we wrote more poetry. We tried creating poems with those comparisons, using similies and metaphors to clarify our feelings and ideas. We're did a great job!

In our afternoon block, Social Studies focused on government. We finished and reviewed n our lap books. That included the 3 branches of government, levels of government, representatives in our government, and national symbols. Lap books go home this weekend, so please review at home for our assessment on Monday. In math, we finished module 5 on Addition and Subtraction Within 1,000 and Word Problems to 100. We focused on subtraction this week, including using different strategies, subtracting vertically, and going across a zero. We took our module test on Friday. Next week we start a unit on problem solving with length, money, and data.

We also had our specials. Sme of us finished up dinosaur pictures in Art with Ms. Sundquist. We sang new songs in Music with Ms. Altshuler. We continued discussing our community in Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. We read a story and checked out books with Mr. Withers in the library. We played some crazy fun games in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We also went and saw a fifth grade performance of "Mary Poppins, Jr." on Friday afternoon.

Lastly, we collected "Pennies for Patients" all week to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society research. Thank you for all of those coins! We also had another week of March Minute Madness. There's one more week to meet your goal!  We also found out what Mr. Ricker is donating to the Fun Fair Raffle on Saturday. Try and stop "Beye" between 11:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M.

Don't forget that next week is P.A.C.K. Week, as well as our last week before Spring Break. Enjoy and have a great weekend!
