Week Eight

We had a short week in Room 104.  We wrapped up our reading and writing units, started a new module in math, and continued our study of solids and liquids in science. We got quite a bit done for a four-day week!

Our ELA Block included our fifth week of spelling and our third week of handwriting. We continue to do well in both! We learned about nouns and plural nouns in language. In RUOS, we reviewed genre, vocabulary, story meaning, and more before having a summative assessment for our "Second Grade Growth Spurt" unit.  In WUOS, we chose a story to publish before editing and rewriting it with a cover. Stories will be displayed in class. We also wrote an on-demand story to show the growth we've made this unit. We move onto non-fiction stories in both RUOS and WUOS next week.

In our afternoon block, we investigated liquids in Science. We observed different liquids, identified their properties, and compared them to other liquids. We also practiced new science vocabulary words like: transparent, translucent, viscous, has color, bubbly, and foamy, which we used during our investigations.  In math, we began a new module on place value and counting. We bundles craft sticks in groups of ones, tens, and hundreds to make them easier to count, Then we worked on skip counting and counting up to numbers as high as 220. We will continue both topics next week. We also snuck in a Halloween art project where we created some bat art, then watched a video on bats with our reading buddies!

We also had some great specials. We worked on new pictures in Art with Ms. Sundquist. We learned a march and some new songs in Music with Ms. Altshuler. We learned more descriptive vocabulary words in Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. We read a story and checked out books in Library with Mr. Withers. And we had some fun games and activities (including building Mr. Bones and Mr. Muscles) in P.E. with Mr. Simatic.

Have a great weekend! See you back in Room 104 on Monday!
