Week Twenty-Six
We had a good week in Room 104. We got Monday off for President's Day before starting several new units.
Our ELA Block included new spelling lists and cursive writing. We focused on capital letters this week. In RUOS, we began a new unit called "Bigger Books Means Amping Up Our Reading Power." We spent time working on reading fluency, listening for line breaks, and looking for dialogue tags. We also did a lot of reading with a friend - You read to me, I'll read to you! In WUOS, we began a new unit on Poetry. We took normal objects and tried to look at them in a different way, comparing them to other things and adding feeling. It was fun, and the students are off to a great start! In language, we looked at dictionaries. We tried using guide words and looking at multiple meanings.
In our afternoon block, we switched to Social Studies and began to a new unit on government. We learned what government is, and that we have a democracy in our country. We also made an American flag. In math, we began module 5 on Addition and Subtraction Within 1,000 and Word Problems to 100. We continued to aadd by hundreds and tens, using both mental math and the arrow way to add. Finally, we finished up our six-week Art Start program by finishing and sharing our mosaics with Mrs. McNulty. Our projects will be displayed at Village Hall very soon-I'll keep you posted!
We also had our specials. With the holiday on Monday, we missed Art with Ms. Sundquist. We had a lot of fun using rhythm, and working on Spring Sing songs in Music with Ms. Altshuler. We continued conversational Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. We read a story and checked out books with a substitute in the library. Of course we played some fun games and had an awesome time in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We also met up with our Book Buddies in Mr. Manus' class.
Next week we continue our learning in all of these subjects. Have a great weekend!
