Week Eighteen
We had a memorable week in Room 104. We finished up several units, took part in the Beye Health Fair, and celebrated our study of fairy tales with a party as we went into Winter Break!
Our ELA Block included new spelling lists and more cursive writing. Keep practicing both! If your child needs more spelling practice, check out the activities at Spelling City. In RUOS, we finished our "If/Then" unit called Studying Characters and Their Stories. We had our summative assessment on "The Story of Yeh-Shen" We also compared "Yeh-Shen" and "Cinderella," looking at aspects that were the same in the setting, characters, and plot. We had a little extra time, so we held a reader's theater and performed both stories in groups. It was fun! In WUOS, we wrote final drafts of our fractured fairy tales. We tried to make corrections with Mr. Ricker and write the story with improved spelling, grammar, and punctuation. There were some great stories! I will make copies for to put in a class book for our library. Lastly, we talked about irregular past tense verbs in language.
In our afternoon block, we spent the week finishing our special projects. They went home on Thursday. I hope you enjoy them! In math, we finished module 6 on the foundations of multiplication and division. We assessed on arrays, repeated addition, and even numbers. We did very well! And of course we had our math centers and workshop.
We also had some of our cool specials, too. We continued our Matisse inspired Art with Ms. Sundquist. We had a lot of fun working with rhythm, singing playing games, and using instruments in Music with Ms. Altshuler. We learned about New Year's customs in Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. We read a story and checked out books with Mr. Withers in the library. We played Reindeer Games in P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We also went to The Winter Festival of Music assembly on Wednesday and saw our Reading Buddies during the Health Fair on Friday.
Friday was super fun. We got our class t-shirts and wore them to all of the learning stations. The Health Fair included activities on our brain, fitness, good dental hygiene, yoga, food allergies, respect, our senses, and creating a dance. Students really enjoyed our morning! Our afternoon included P.E., the all-school sing -a-long, and our Fairy Tale Party. The party had a snack, fairy tales, a wand scratch activity, fairy tale bingo, a fun packet of activities, decorating a crown, making a gingerbread boy or girl magnet, and a game. Students had a really nice time! Extra special thanks to Zach's mom for helping plan our party, plus Bea's mom, Olivia's dad, Charlotte's dad, and Rocco's mom for coming and helping out. Thank you!
Looking ahead, we have Winter Break for two weeks! Have a happy and healthy vacation! See you back in Room 104 on Monday, January 7!
