The Letter A

We had a pretty good Tuesday back in Room 203. We spent our morning talking about our letter of the week and learning about our new Reading Workshop. We used crayons and apple stickers to make the tactile page "Apples on 'A's on an Alligator." We also learned our new poem of the week ("Ring-Around-the -Rosies"), read "My 'A' Book," and tried to come up with some words that start with the letter "A." For Reader's Workshop, we introduced our gathering song and learned that readers read the world. We practiced that by going around the room with a partner to find letters, words, and pictures that we can read already. After a quick game of "Shark" for PEA, snack, and recess, we had our first Writer's Workshop. We tried an "on-demand" writing sample to see where the students are at. We will use it later to see all that we've grown as writers.

After lunch, we practiced some counting and number fluency in math. We also worked on sorting together objects that belong. In science, we reviewed colors. We went outside and used prisms and the sun to make rainbows. It was fun!  We ended the day with Music and Spanish. Then we packed up, passed out green folders, and reviewed homework before lining up for home.

Let's have a great week!
