Freight Train
We had a fun Friday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. We also read "My Crayons Talk" and reviewed crayon colors. At our language arts rotations, students worked on coloring and matching like crayons. My groups wrote "I am..." sentences in their kindergarten journals. The other groups had free choice centers. After recess, we had math. We worked on writing and identifying the numbers 1, 2, and 3. Be sure to practice them at home!
After lunch, we read the story Freight Train. It's a short story about a train with different colored cars. As our art project, we made the fright train. We started with the caboose, added the traincars in the correct color order, and put the engine at the front. Then we decorated the train when we were done. We did a nice job! Best of all, everyone worked very carefully with the wet glue. When we were done, we recited "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" before going out for afternoon snack and recess. To end the day, we had a popcorn party. We earned it by listening to the teacher and following directions. Whenever I catch the class doing a good job, we get a scoop of popcorn. If we make it to the top of the jar by Friday, we get a popcorn party. The class enjoyed their popcorn while we watched an SRA reading video with "Sam and Mat." Then we packed up Friday Folders (which should get signed and returned on Monday), sang "Wake Up Toes," and passed out certificates for completing our first week of kindergarten. Have a great weekend!
Be sure to look over graded work and notices in the Friday Folder every weekend. Take out the papers, initial or sign it in the correct area, and return it on Monday. You also may write comments should you have any. See me if you have any questions!
