Drawing Leaves

We had another full day in Room 2. We began our Thursday with Nutrition and morning activities. We read "Leaves" and "L is for Lobster." At language arts rotations, students worked on "L" phonics and words. My groups read "I Am a Doctor" and wrote a letter to Nathan, our Star of the Week. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we recited "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and had math. Students tried to write all the numbers from 1 to 100 on a hundred chart. It was tough!

After lunch, we did some segmentation (counting syllables in words) and read "Autumn Leaves." The book gave several examples of colorful leaves. We reviewed the parts of a leaf (stem, midrib, vein, blade) and then tried to draw different kinds of leaves showing those parts. Most drew simple leaves, but some tried compound leaves, too. We used our real leaves to help. After we drew a few, we traced the outer edges and veins with crayon. For Star of the Week, Nathan shared some great family pictures. He has had some fun vacations! Next we had P.E. on the kindergarten with jump ropes and balls. To end the day, we used watercolors to finish filling in our leaf drawings. They look good!  Then we packed up our things, reviewed homework, and played some "Mr. Ricker Says" before lining up for home.

Don't forget to finish and check over homework packets for Friday. And parents, remember to include YOUR homework!
