Canoes and Totem Poles
We had a good day in Room 2. We began our Wednesday with Nutrition and morning activities. We read "Let's Read About Squanto" and learned more about Native American culture. At language arts rotations, students decorated, cut, and sewed a canoe and paddle. They look great! My groups wrote a narrative story using a picture to help. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we recited "Little Nut Tree," did some rhyming, and had math. We worked more with joining numbers to add.
After recess, we read "The True Story of Pocahontas" and talked more about Native American history. Then we made a totem pole. We colored in a design, cut, glued it to a paper towel roll, and attached wings and a beak. It was tricky, but fun! Lila, our Star of the Week, was absent today. We still reviewed what we know and read an Elephant and Piggie book, since they're Lila's favorite. We also sang and danced a little song called "A Turkey Named Burt." We had a quick afternoon snack time before going out to P.E. Coach Angel had us play a ring toss game using small rings and another using hula hoops! To end the day, we went to the library. Mrs. Singh read three books: "Clifford's Thanksgiving Visit," "Hello Biscuit," and "Bears on Wheels." Then we packed our things up for home. We also took our Thanksgiving centerpieces from Art with Ms. Maria and Miss Karla home. I hope they made it in one piece! We'll see you tomorrow!
