The First Week of Second Grade

We had a great first week of school in Room 104.  Let me tell you all about it!

The first day with students was on Wednesday. We spent the start of the day learning about our room and some class rules and procedures. We learned everyone's name and checked in our supplies. We also read "Wemberley Worried" by Kevin Henkes and wrote how we felt about school. Most students were very positive! We spent the rest of Wednesday taking a tour around our room and the building. We talked about being safe, respectful, responsible, problem solvers and peacemakers. (Those are the Beye Laws.)

Thursday continued our introduction to second grade. We read some more stories, practiced more routines, and started showing what we know. I had students write letters and numbers to look for any handwriting concerns. We did some independent and partner reading. We also fit in some math games before going to Spanish and Art at the end of the day.

Friday was centered more on those Beye Laws. We read "Do Unto Otters" and learned about good manners. Each student illustrated a positive behavior, such as be polite, be friendly, share, play fair, and cooperate. Later, we tried writing a "small moment" story to show what we are able to write. After lunch, we drew a self portrait that we will finish next week. After an addition and subtraction math check, we visited P.E. and Music for the first time.

Our first homework packets went home on Friday, so be sure to look for them. You may start them early if you wish. I hope that everyone is happy to be in Room 104. Have a fantastic Labor Day weekend!
