Week Two

We had a fun Week Two in Room 104! The start of our week focused on rules, routines, and getting ready for Curriculum Night on Wednesday. The end of our week was about safety. Thursday had a bus evacuation drill, while Friday included a lockdown drill. Both seemingly went smoothly. Please let me know if you have any concerns regarding either drill.

Academically, we covered a lot this week. In Reading Units of Study (RUOS), we looked at how readers choose to read and decided how a book wants to be read. We also worked on building our stamina, getting past twenty minutes at the end of the week. In Writing Units of Study (WUOS), we wrote an on-demand piece to start our narrative unit. We also talked about discovering the small moments that matter and tried to capture some story ideas for future use. In math, we worked on sums to 100, focusing on building tens and adding to ten. We're really trying to use the "Say Ten" way when counting to help with this process. In Social Studies, we began our study of neighborhoods, looking at our home, town, and state in which we live. We will look at the country, continent, and planet next week, as well as with maps of each.

Socially, we continue to work together and build relationships. We're reviewing class rules and practicing routines the right way. Our Second Step lesson was on being respectful, so that tied in nicely with our school rules.

Looking ahead, we will work on reading comprehension, writing with more detail, adding and subtracting within 100 in math, and exploring more maps and our neighborhood in Social Studies. MAP Testing will also begin at the end of next week.

Have a great Labor Day weekend. See you on Tuesday!
